Mikael Møller Høgsgaard awarded Internationalisation Fellowship
Mikael Møller Høgsgaard has recently completed his PhD, under supervision of Professor Kasper Green Larsen, and will now continue his academic career as a postdoc. For this next step, he has been awarded a prestigious Internationalisation Fellowship from the Carlsberg Foundation.
A theoretical perspective on machine learning
In his project, Aggregating Predictors: A Theoretical Perspective, Mikael studies fundamental questions in machine learning about how and when combining several models can lead to more accurate predictions than relying on a single model. While such methods are widely used in practice, many of the underlying principles are still not fully understood.
The project seeks to strengthen the theoretical foundations of these methods by developing rigorous guarantees and analytical insights, with the hope of clarifying why existing algorithms work well and of providing guidance for improving current methods or informing the development of new ones
Split between Oxford and Aarhus
The fellowship is hosted by Oxford University, where Mikael will be affiliated with the Statistics and Machine Learning group led by Professor Patrick Rebeschini. Oxford provides a leading international environment for research in learning theory, statistics, and theoretical computer science.
In line with the goals of the Internationalisation Fellowship, Mikael’s postdoctoral appointment will be split evenly between Oxford University and Aarhus University, allowing him to both develop new international collaborations and reintegrate the knowledge and networks gained abroad into the Danish research environment.
About the Carlsberg Foundation Internationalisation Fellowships
The Carlsberg Foundation’s Internationalisation Fellowships are two- to three-year postdoctoral grants that support research stays at international research institutions combined with employment at a Danish institution. The programme is designed to strengthen Danish research through international mobility and long-term reintegration of talented researchers into Denmark.
