CS Researchers Participate in Second Training Week of the RELAX Doctoral Network

Professor Ira Assent, along with PhD students Pouya Khani and Tommaso Amico, recently attended the second training week of the RELAX European Doctoral Network in Belfast. The RELAX (Relaxed Semantics Across the Data Analytics Stack) network is a prestigious European initiative designed to train researchers in the development of scalable and efficient data-intensive software systems.

The RELAX network addresses key challenges in modern data analytics, focusing on robust decision-making in the face of uncertain or biased data, novel algorithms for indexing and summarisation, and new coordination models for AI and machine learning. Throughout the week, participants engaged in discussions and workshops exploring the latest advancements in these fields, while also participating in interdisciplinary collaboration and cross-sectoral networking. The network fosters a comprehensive training programme, combining technical research with innovation, management, and leadership training.

Funded by the European Union’s HORIZON-MSCA-2021-DN-01 under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement, the RELAX network aims to address a critical skills gap in the fast-growing European data economy. By equipping its researchers with expertise in distributed computing, data science, and computing systems, the programme ensures the development of new solutions to enhance scalability, response times, and availability in data analytics systems.
