A New Government Platform with Strong Digital Ambitions!

It is positive to see that the political platform of Denmark’s new four-party coalition government includes significant ambitions for digital research, innovation, and education.

We particularly note:

🔹 2,000 additional STEM bachelor’s study places
🔹 An extra DKK 1 billion annually for research and education
🔹 A national strategy for the use of artificial intelligence in the education sector
🔹 Stronger technology literacy education in primary and lower secondary schools
🔹 An AI acceleration fund to support the development of AI solutions that benefit society
🔹 A national strategy spanning from quantum research to a quantum industry

These initiatives all have the potential to strengthen Denmark’s digital sovereignty, foster the development of responsible AI solutions, improve resilience against cyber threats, and help create the technology companies of the future.

At the department, we are particularly pleased to see the 2,000 additional bachelor’s study places. This directly addresses the call made a year ago by researchers, companies, and organisations for 1,000 additional STEM-IT study places (see https://borsen.dk/nyheder/opinion/it-studiepladser-beskaeres-midt-i-massiv-mangel-pa-it-specialister, in Danish). The fact that this has now become 2,000 places across the broader STEM field is even better.

We hope that some of these new study places will be dedicated to international students. Competition for digital talent is global, and international graduates educated in Denmark make important contributions to both our research environments and the business community.

Finally, we look forward to continuing our strong collaboration with Minister for Higher Education and Science and Minister for Digital Affairs Christina Egelund to strengthen Denmark’s digital skills and capacity.
