Student project: MyOceanEye

Check out this cool project by IT Product Development students Mads Kristian Steen Vejrup, Magnus Frisk, and Oliver Due Nielsen. Over the past few months, they have created MyOceanEye—a project aimed at raising awareness about the critical state of our oceans.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐲𝐎𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐄𝐲𝐞? A floating, DIY camera designed to capture images of marine life and the ocean floor. Leveraging AI technology, the camera can automatically photograph desired subjects, helping to identify fish and marine debris. Users can view these images and live streams on their smartphones, contributing to the AI's training and improving its accuracy.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐲𝐎𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐄𝐲𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭? In collaboration with Søværnet and their Havmiljøvogterne campaign, this innovative project encourages people to connect with the ocean, understand its current condition, and participate in its conservation. The easy-to-assemble camera is perfect for everyone, including school students, promoting education about marine environments and IT.

Project Highlights:

  • Floating Camera: Captures underwater images and live streams to smartphone.
  • AI Integration: Automatically detects and photographs marine life and debris.
  • Community Contribution: Users help train the AI.
  • Educational Tool: Ideal for school projects on marine biology and IT.

At their exam, the project received very positive feedback, earning top marks and high praise for its potential impact and innovation. Great work, Mads, Magnus, and Oliver 🎉
