2022 Sapere Aude Research Leaders

Congratulations to assistant professors Sophia Yakoubov and Magnus Madsen who have been selected as two of 41 new Sapere Aude Research Leaders by Independent Research Fund Denmark (Danmarks Frie Forskningsfond). The Sapere Aude grant is awarded to young, excellent researchers with ambitious goals across all research fields. Both Yakoubov and Madsen are tenue track assistant professors hired by Department of Computer Science under the Aarhus University’s digitalisation initiative, which aims to ensure that Denmark remains at the forefront of IT by making substantial investments in IT research and education.

Tillykke til PhD studerende Adam Blatchey Hansen, alumne Morten Eskildsen og deres tre holdkammerater Kristoffer, Alexander og Jens som i weekenden vandt hackathonet Cyber Demon, der blev afholdt af Forsvarets Efterretningstjeneste. Mere end 400 hold har konkurreret om at vinde titlen men Adam og Mortens hold 'Too young to win defcon, too old to win ecsc’ endte som vindere af konkurrencen.

Google ASPIRE grant to Birkedal and Pichon

Congratulations to assistant professor Jean Pichon and professor Lars Birkedal, both from the Logic and Semantics research group, who each have received USD 60,000 from Google to support their work on formal verification hypervisors.

Full Professorship in Cryptography and Security

Aarhus University has made an ambitious strategic to radically expand the Department of Computer Science. Therefore, the department is looking for a full professor that can contribute to our basic and strategic research in Cryptography and Security from February 1, 2023.

 

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to and shape the research and teaching as well as the industrial and societal collaboration associated with the department's expansion. Application deadline is November 28.

2022 Grundfos Student prize award to Adam Petro

Congratulations to former master student - now graduate at Vestas - Adam Petro, who has been awarded the 2022 Grundfos Student prize award for his thesis, supervised by Ira Assent, 'Using synthetic data to train neural networks for point cloud segmentation' and the work he did while working as a student assistant at Grundfos during his studies.

Greenland is investigating the possibilities of a blockchain-based election system

Concordium Blockchain, COBRA, Aarhus University, the Alexandra Institute, and the IT University have been granted DKK 3.6 million by DIREC, to investigate how to create the best possible online voting system for Greenland.

The paper "Collectives and Their Artifact Ecologies" by Henrik Korsgaard, Clemens Klokmose, Susanne Bødker and their collaborators has won the Best Paper Award at CSCW2022.

Congratulations to Ivan Damgård, Jesper Buus Nielsen, and former PhD student Sigurd Meldgaard (now software engineer at Google) who have been selected as winner of the Test of Time Award at the Theory of Cryptography Conference (TTC) for their paper ‘Perfectly secure oblivious RAM without random oracles’ from 2011. 

Aarhus University at Digital Tech Summit 2022

This year, researchers from the department are organizing four sessions at the Digital Tech Summit. Ira, Bas, Eve, and Ken will each chair a session in the four categories: Foodtech and aggrotech, Cyber security, trust and fintech, Digital talents – skills of tomorrow, and Technological megatrends and emerging technologies. Each session will include a scientific and business perspective on the topic in question.
