Happy Ada Lovelace Day!
Ada Lovelace Day is the international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Ada Lovelace was one of the first to write an algorithm designed to be carried out by a machine. She is therefor, by some, seen as the first computer programmer. Also, her vision of what the machine (called the Analytical Engine) could be used for beyond number crunching was more visionary than many others in the field at that time. Her mindset made her ask questions about the Analytical Engine that examined the relation between technology and individuals and society.
Here on Ada Lovelace day, we would also like to celebrate the ALICE network, which is still active even though we cannot meet physically. People are sharing book and movie recommendations on the Facebook page, and we are still actively planning different events to take place online (and physically when safe). So if you have any suggestions for events or activities please reach out to us either here on Facebook or by writing to the network’s coordinator Julie (jras@cs.au.dk).
For moreinformation about ALICE, check out this new video or give their Facebook page a like.
